Founders Cup 2025

Project Type

Jersey and Merchandise Design

Date

August 2025

Location

Calgary, AB

This body of work was created for the Founders Cup 2025, hosted in Calgary in partnership with Tsuut’ina Nation, and designed for the Calgary Shamrocks.

The Shamrocks logo was redesigned for the tournament, drawing on the form of a hide drum to symbolize heartbeat, unity, and continuity in lacrosse. Stitching details reference the drum’s role in carrying songs forward, ensuring they are never lost. Three feathers were incorporated to reflect balance and unity, mirroring both the shamrock’s three leaves and the commitment to honouring the past, competing in the present, and shaping the future of the game.

The jersey designs were inspired by star blankets, representing honour, protection, and connection. Visual elements throughout the kit reference lacrosse as the Creator’s Game and the relationships woven between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities through sport. Language placement was intentional, with words for “family” positioned closest to the heart, and phrases honouring legacy and belonging integrated throughout the design.

In addition to the game jerseys, I designed warm-up shirts, team merchandise, and limited-edition t-shirts and hoodies, which sold out on the first day of the tournament. I also created a Founders Cup MVP jersey, designed to be gifted to players as a lasting marker of achievement and recognition.

This project was deeply collaborative. I was honoured to work alongside Bruce Starlight, whose guidance and translations ensured the language used throughout the designs was accurate, respectful, and grounded in relationship.

This work was built to carry meaning while functioning in a high-performance, national tournament setting, and to honour lacrosse as both sport and living tradition.
