Buffalo InDigital

Project Type

Beadwork

Date

August 2025

Location

Calgary, AB

This project includes two beaded pin designs created for Buffalo InDigital in partnership with ATCO Space Labs.

One pin is a hand-beaded translation of the Buffalo InDigital logo, carefully adapted from its digital form into beadwork while preserving the original shape, colour, and movement.

The second pin is an original design that interprets Buffalo InDigital’s work in geospatial data and mapping. Layered colours and bead placement reference data grids, elevation, and movement across land, reflecting how technology and spatial intelligence shape decision-making.

Together, the pins bridge digital systems and Indigenous making practices, grounding high-tech work in material, tactile form. Each piece emphasizes precision, care, and the relationship between land, data, and story.

I was born and raised in Moh’kinsstis (Calgary), on Treaty 7 territory, the traditional lands of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy), including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina Nation and the Stoney Nakoda Nations. I now live and create in Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton), on Treaty 6 territory, a long-standing gathering place and home to nehiyaw (Cree), Denesųłıné (Dene), Nakota Sioux, Anishinaabe/Saulteaux, Métis, and Inuit Peoples.

As a member of ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation, I hold these places with care and gratitude and try to reflect that responsibility in how I create and collaborate.
